Troubleshooting Townhall: Get ready for your
2012 Garden
Bring
your questions to a troubleshooting workshop. We will start with a short
presentation on common gardening questions in this region
(e.g., why are
my beets so tiny? How can I get a good stand of carrots? How come there is
powdery mildew on everything and
what can I do
about it? What are those crumbly grey patches on my broccoli? Why did my squash
fall off prematurely?).
There will
plenty of time for participants to ask questions and find out how to solve
problem for next yet--or better yet, avoid it all together.

Fertilization
for Your Vegetation
Crops from
apples to zucchini and all seed saving depend on successful fertilization of
flowers. This presentation reviews plant biology and
the different
types of flowers, pollinating agents, and environmental factors, such as
temperature, that affect fertilization of vegetables and fruit.
Learn why some
plants don't fruit and what to do about it, how and when to hand pollinate and
how to prevent cross-pollination
when you want to
make sure seeds you save are 'true' to the variety.
1:30 – 2:30 Bernie Dinter
Management and Pruning of a Home Orchard
Our climate is suited for fruit production in
our back yards. With planning, fresh fruit can be available from August until
the storage varieties
are used up in the new year. A
basic understanding of managing fruit trees will result in increased yields every
year.
